Matt Boyle OBE

Matt Boyle is a serial entrepreneur in Engineering, specifically Electrification.
Matt co-authored the Driving the Electric Revolution (DER) challenge, which develops and grows the UK’s supply chain in electrification across Transport, Energy and Industrial Sectors. In 2021 Matt was appointed Professor of Practice at Newcastle to become Executive Chair of the DER Industrialisation centres across the country. Matt served on the Prime Ministers business council in 2022.
Until 2017, Matt was President and CEO of Sevcon; a Nasdaq listed company in Electrification. During Matt’s Presidency Sevcon grew from a $20M industrial business in 1997 to an automotive company acquired by BorgWarner for $200M in September 2017.
In 2021 Matt led an investment of £110 million pounds into the North East, buying back Sevcon, adding Avid and Hyperdrive and reselling the combined business to Turntide Technologies, winning the Entrepreneur of the Year award that year.
Matt is Chair of the North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA), is a non Executive Director at Cosworth Group. Matt consults for German, Italian, US and UK companies in electrification. He was awarded an OBE for services to Engineering and Skills in the 2018 New Year honours list.
